Accra, Feb. 9, GNA -The year-on-year inflation rate rose in January 2022 at 13.9 per cent, the Ghana Statistical Service said on Wednesday.
The rate was 1.3 percentage points higher than the 12.6 per cent recorded in December 2021. The month-on-month inflation between December 2021 and January 2022 was 2.1 per cent.
At a press conference, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, the Government Statistician, said the inflation rate was driven by housing, water, electricity and gas.
He said the contribution of housing, water, electricity and gas to overall inflation increased by 4.6 percentage points from 17.5 per cent in December 2021 to 22.1 per cent in January 2022.
For the first time in seven months, Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages inflation was 13.7 per cent and Non-food inflation at 14.1 per cent.
On a month-on-month basis, non-food inflation was up in January at 2.2.per cent compared to 2.0 per cent in December 2021.
Inflation for locally produced items continues to dominate with 15.0 per cent while imported goods recorded 11.0 per cent.
At the Regional level, Greater Accra regained its lead in overall inflation with inflation of 18.4 per cent while the Eastern Region had the least inflation of 6.9 per cent.
