Nkwanta (O/R), Jan. 28, GNA – Mr Bright Kwame Lenwah, Nkwanta North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), says the Assembly will from February this year move all traders away from the streets and walkways in the Municipality.
He said traders were informed and the ones who would defy the directive would face arrest and sanctions.
Mr Lenwah said the congestion of the street by traders was causing a lot of havoc to some pedestrians and also making the town lose its beauty.
He said there were several records of accidents in the Nkwanta town due to the traders taking over the street.
“I will, therefore, urge everybody, especially the street traders, to abide by this directive.”
Mr Lenwah cautioned drivers not to park their cars in unapproved spaces to enable pedestrians to freely move on the streets without being exposed to danger.
Some traders said although the directive was a valid one, they would plead with the Assembly to provide them with alternatives to enable them to make ends meet.
They said the Nkwanta market could not contain all of them.
The traders said their survival was dependent on the streets and urged the Assembly to adopt measures that would allow them to sell without affecting road users.
