Accra, Dec. 15, GNA – Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea will officiate at the next year’s TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament to be staged in Cameroon.
The top Ghanaian referee was among the 33 referees announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate matches in next year’s competition.
The list also included 31 assistant referees from various countries were also included.
The 34-year-old referee is the only Ghanaian referee to be named among officials for the AFCON tournament having established himself as one of the best referees of the local scene.
Prior to the appointment, Referee Laryea had handled a number of Africa Cup of Nations, World Cup qualifiers as well as inter-club competitions.
Next months’ AFCON which commences on January 9 to February 6, 2022, would witness Ghana’s Black Stars in action as they aim to end a 40-year trophy drought.
