Cape Coast, Nov. 27, 2021, GNA – Professor Isaac Galyuon, Provost of the College of Distance Education has charged medical students of the University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences (UCCSMS) to exhibit utmost professionalism, discipline, and confidentiality in the medical profession.
He explained that these qualities inculcated in them as medical students by their lecturers will earn them the confidence of their patients and send them far in the journey of their career journey.
He made this statement on behalf of Professor Johnson Nyarkoh Boampong, Vice Chancellor of UCC, at the 12th White Coat ceremony held to usher in the students into the clinical stage of medical school.
At the ceremony, a total of 116 students made up of 54 postgraduate students and 62 regular students were inaugurated into the practical phase of their six-year voyage in medical school.
The White Coat Ceremony is held during the fourth year of medical students’ journey to usher them into clinical practice.
Prof Galyuong outlined the importance of the ceremony, saying among others that it was to inspire the students to be zealous as future doctors whose theoretical part of their education was carved in excellence.
He also urged them to avoid any form of complacency and be ready to learn from their superiors and even their colleague doctors since any little mistake could end the life of their patients.
He applauded the students for their hard work over the years and urged them to carry the good image of UCCSMS everywhere they found themselves, especially in the hospitals.
Professor Harold Amonoo-Kuofi, Former Provost, College of Health and Allied Sciences of UCC, encouraged the students to serve patients with uttermost reverence and never feel too big to learn from others.
