Obuasi (Ash), Sept. 08, GNA – The ‘Fifty 50 Club,’ a non-profit organisation based in Obuasi, has provided financial assistance to two persons as part of its quarterly donation programme in support of the needy.
They are Mr David Ababio Awuni, a 21-year old student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and Madam Monica Oware, a 50-year old widow.
David Ababio Awuni received a Laptop computer and financial support to study Computer Science for the 2021/2022 academic year.
The Club also pledged to provide financial assistance for the duration of his programme depending on his performance.
Madam Monica Oware, a resident of Kokoteasua in the Obuasi Municipality, has blurred vision, caused by spinal cord and waist disorders and finds it difficult to cater for her four children as she earns little from her garden eggs business.
The Club, therefore, bought her a commercial food processor known locally as “Fufu pounding machine,” and rented a store close to her residence, stocked with provisions for her.
Mr Jacob Edmund Acquah, the President of the Club, said it had made a number of donations to the needy, including a five-year-old boy, Godwin Asare, with GHc10,000 to undergo surgery to correct a hole in heart.
He said each member paid a minimum of 50 Ghana cedis monthly and on a quarterly basis, the Club selected beneficiaries to receive various forms of support.
“The Club was formed in July 2020 and we are going to do a lot more to help a lot of people in the community. Its membership had grown over the years as employees of other institutions outside the AngloGold Ashanti Ghana have joined…,” he said.
“We are looking forward to selecting another group of beneficiaries in December.”
Madam Oware commended the Club for the support and said it would enable her to generate more income to support her children’s education.
Mr Ababio, on his part, said the support would encourage him to study hard to realise his dreams and lauded the Club for the gesture.
