Accra, May 14, GNA – Accra Great Olympics threw away a two-goal lead to succumb to Aduana Stars 3-2 in a match-week 24 encounter of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.
Maxwell Abbey and Manaf Mudasiru put the home side ahead but Sam Adams’ double and Bright Adjei strike saw the away side secure all three points.
The home side dominated possession in the early stages of the game with some eye-catching one-touch football with Aduana Stars kept on the back foot.
Great Olympics Captain Gladson Awako who has six goals to his credit this season nearly added to his tally in the 22nd minute but his free-kick from 25 yards struck the post.
Aduana Stars on the other hand, rarely made any attacking incursions as Great Olympics goalkeeper Stephen Kweku remained untested past the half-hour mark.
Aduana Stars goalkeeper Massawudu Inusah produced the save of the season to deny Samuel Abbey Quaye in the 35th minute.
But Great Olympics marksman Maxwell Abbey deservedly took the lead on the 36th minute with a right foot strike which was too powerful for goalkeeper Inusah.
Abbey should have grabbed his second goal of the game when he was left one on one with the goalkeeper but his effort went wide.
Great Olympics started the second half with the same tenacity as the first half and Thomas Darlington nearly scored the cushion goal but shockingly missed from close range.
Substitute Manaf Mudasiru scored the second goal for Great Olympics in the 56th minute with a finish from close range.
Aduana Stars responded in quick fashion with Sam Adams tapping in from close range after a beautifully delivered free-kick by Samuel Bio.
Aduana Stars were fired up after pulling one back as they pressed for the equalizer.
It was a nervy ending for the Great Olympics lads and they did pay for the price after Bright Adjei grabbed the equalizer with just five minutes to end the game.
The away side had the last laugh as Sam Adams scored his second goal of the day to secure all three points for the away side.
