Tema, April 1, GNA – The Tema Regional Office of the Ghana News Agency has initiated “End of Month Stakeholder Engagement and Workers Appreciation Day,” which is a platform rolled-out for state and non-state actors to address national issues.
Mr Francis Ameyibor, GNA Tema Regional Manager explained that the event also served a motivational mechanism to recognize the editorial contribution of reporters towards national development in general and growth and promotion of the Tema GNA as the industrial news hub.
The maiden programme, which was attended by the TDC Development Company Limited (TDC), National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), and Information Service Department (ISD) was used to deepen the working relations with the stakeholders.
Mr Ameyibor said the Agency was strategically placed as a credible news organisation that needed to deepen its relations with its stakeholders for mutual benefit and to advance the prospects of the agency and the country as a whole.
Mr Isaac Kwame Antwi, NCCE Tema Metropolitan Director commended the GNA for its continuous support for the commission and other democratic governance institutions towards national development and the promotion of civic education across the country.
He noted that NCCE was mandated to develop and maintain with the community the sense of the principles and objectives of the 1992 Constitution as the fundamental law of Ghana.
Mr Antwi said public education hinged highly on the wheels of the media, “that’s is why we appreciate the vehicle that GNA has offered us to educate and encourage the public to defend this Constitution at all times, against all forms of abuse and violation”.
Mr Ian Okwei, TDC Protocol and Administrative Officer said TDC was set up in 1952 by an Act of Parliament with the sole responsibility to plan and develop about 63 square miles of public land for various land cases.
He said in 2017, TDC was converted into a Limited Liability Company with enhanced mandate to expand its operational and geographical scope beyond the Tema Acquisition Area.
It is new objects to acquire land both in and outside Ghana for real estate development and management; and planning, development and construction of towns and cities in and outside Ghana.
Mr Okwei said other mandates included; the development and management of commercial and industrial areas, provision of consultancy services, partnership and collaboration with other real estate developers (both local and international) and agencies for provision of the above services, and investment in real estate concerns.
Mrs Doris Gorman, ISD Tema Regional Director said its mandate was to create awareness on government policies, programmes and activities, and to promote Ghana’s international marketing agenda.
She said ISD also provided public relations support to other Ministries, Departments and Agencies and submit feedback reports from the public.
Mrs Gorman said ISD deepened a responsive two-way channel of communication between the government and the people to proactively and readily assist the government’s investment promotion and development programmes towards good governance.
Mr George-Ramsey Benamba, Chief Editor and Head of the Home Desk of GNA admonished the reporters to be forward-looking and diligent in their journalistic practice.
He also advised them to focus on improving skills in feature writing which would set them apart and make them confident in their profession.
