MTN Ghana Foundation gives to Effia NKwanta hospital

Effia(WR), April 01, GNA – The MTN Ghana Foundation has presented quantities of COVID-19 supplies to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional hospital in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The items were made up of; Face masks, Coveralls, Gloves, Thermometers, Face Shields and Mentholated Spirit.

Mr Prince Owusu Nyarko, the Western Regional Manager of MTN commended health workers across the country for their dedication in the fight against COVID-19 in Ghana.

He said 29 hospitals would receive similar donations across the country.

“In addition, he said MTN Group recently made a major move in the fight against the deadly virus COVID-19 by announcing that it would be donating $25 million to the African Union to procure COVID-19 vaccines”, he added.

According to him, the partnership would provide seven million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for health workers across the continent, which would contribute to the vaccination initiative of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

“At MTN, we believe that we have a major role to play in this fight against COVID-19 right from the onset, and this continues to be paramount to us”.

Mr Nyarko said immediately COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic, MTN Ghana moved to put in place measures to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in its service centres across the country.

Additionally, MTN Foundation donated PPE worth GH¢5 million to the National COVID-19 Trust Fund and another donation of essential equipment to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research to enable rapid testing and data processing.

He said MTN also launched the “Wear it for Me” campaign to raise awareness about the importance of wearing face masks and also donated a large quantity of face masks to over 30 hospitals in all 16 Regions.

‘We will continue to encourage all Ghanaians to adhere strictly to all the safety protocols issued by local and global authorities in fighting this pandemic.”

Dr Edward Amihire, Senior Clinical Coordinator of the hospital received the items on behalf of the hospital and said the delivery was timely as their stock was depleting and promised to put the items to good use.
