First Lady hands over furnished electronic library to Krachi East

Dambai Lapaz (O/R) March 31, GNA – Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady has handed over a fully furnished electronic library to Krachi East schools and communities.

The Library is part of such facilities being constructed by the Rebecca Foundation to impart the attitude of routine reading in school children as a means of improving on learning skills.

Mr Guy Amarteifio, Volta/Oti Region Director of the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), said library was often the only readily available source of comprehensive information needed by people for personal, family and job-related purposes.

He said the Ghana Library Authority was in collaboration with UNICEF to help the early grade schools to acquire reading skills to support them in their learning activities.

He said workshops were being organised for the teachers to equip them with reading skills to support the early grade school.

Mr Amarteifio on behalf of the Ghana Library Authority, commended Mrs Akufo-Addo, for the great work she was doing for mother Ghana, by putting up Libraries in some parts of the country such as the magnificent building for the people at Dambai.

Mr Richard Darko, a representative from Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo office, thanked development partners, which includes the Ministry of Education, Ghana Library Authority, Book Aid International, the Regional Coordinating Council, Municipal Assembly, the Regional Coordinating Council and the chiefs of Dambai where the library was, for their support in executing the project.

He stated that since 2017, the Rebecca Foundation through the Ghana Library Authority had executed seven libraries in some part of the country.

Mr Joshua Gmayenaam Makubu, the Regional Minister, was grateful for the library project and encouraged school children to make the best of it.

He assured representatives from the Rebecca Foundation that the ORCC would work to maintain the facility and ensure its longevity.

The handing-over ceremony was attended by Chiefs and elders, Regional Director of Education, School children, teachers, Ghana Education Service officials, Municipal Director of Education and other citizens.

Members from the Municipality expressed gratitude to the Foundation for successfully completing the library.
