Coach Zito vows to lead Ghana to win fourth U-20 trophy

Accra, Feb.15, GNA – Karim Zito Head Coach of Ghana’s U-20 national team has targeted winning the ultimate for Ghana in this year’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) U-20 Africa Cup of Nations being staged in Mauritania.

The Black Satellites of Ghana who have won the competition three times (1993, 1999, and 2009) would open their account at this year’s tournament against Tanzania on Tuesday, February 16, at the Stade Municipal de Nouadhibou.

Speaking in a pre-match conference, the experienced Ghanaian coach said, he would not underestimate any team in the competition, but he is convinced his boys were well prepared to fight for the ultimate trophy.

“No country came here because of its name, we all played the zonal tournaments and qualified to be here. So each match would be a high profile one.

“We are here to raise the image of Ghana as we have been doing very well in the U-20, so we have to maintain our reputation in the Championship and sell Ghana’s football to the world,” he stated.

“In football we have three things: win, lose or draw and you also get another opportunity to make amendments. We didn’t perform very well in our last continental outing at this level but this time round we are coming as Champions from our zone.

“So we have to try to go for the ultimate or fight for the ultimate and that is our main objective here in Mauritania,” he said.

Ghana would face Morocco and Gambia in subsequent matches as they look to progress beyond the group stage, something they failed to do in Niger back in 2019.
