Tintin drawing fetches record 3.8 million dollars at auction

Paris, Jan. 15,(dpa/GNA)- A drawing by the Belgian comic artist Herge was sold at auction on Thursday for a record 3.2 million euros (3.8 million dollars).

The work was a draft for the cover picture of the Tintin comic “The Blue Lotus” auction house Artcurial said.

It is the highest price that has ever been paid for a work by Herge at auction and the highest paid for an original comic book at an auction.

The price includes auction costs. The buyer is a private collector.

The drawing dates from 1936 and was reportedly sold by the Casterman family, which received the work from Herge as a gift.

Tintin is one of the most successful series comic literature – only comparable to Asterix and Obelix.
