VW expanding production in Mexico with 230-million-dollar investment

Mexico City, Nov. 13, (dpa/GNA) – German carmaker Volkswagen plans to build EA211 generation car engines in Mexico.

The Mexican subsidiary of the German group will invest 233.5 million dollars in upgrading its plant in the state of Guanajuato for the new engines, Volkswagen Mexico announced on Thursday.

The move is expected to increase the factory’s production capacity by 75 per cent. The new engines will be used in vehicle manufacturing in North America from next year, the company said.

At the plant in Guanajuato, around 350 kilometres north-west of Mexico City, a good 330,000 engines were manufactured last year.

The other VW plant in Mexico, in the state of Puebla – around 120 kilometres south-east of the capital – is one of the group’s largest in the world.

The company has a total of around 13,000 employees in Mexico, 1,200 of them in Guanajuato.
