Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – The MTN Ghana Foundation, has commissioned a multipurpose community library at the Ebenezer Senior High School in the Ablekuma West Constituency to enhance learning and digital transformation.
The 100-seater capacity library, which has a modern Information Communication Technology (ICT) and a robotics lab to accommodate 20 students each, a washroom and two offices is worth GH¢7,070.
The edifice also seeks to serve the whole community and the over 20 schools in the Ablekuma West Municipality as a means to achieve greatness.
Mr Selorm Adadevor, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN, speaking at the event said the project formed part of their commitment to brighten the lives of the people and expressed their appreciation to the people of Dansoman for their loyalty to the brand services for the past 25 years.
The CEO, reiterating the importance of ICT, and robotics said they embarked on the project because they understood the life-changing opportunities it would bring to the people.
He said one of their core mandates was to improve the quality of life of the people through appropriate and sustainable interventions in communities where MTN operates, thus, happy to support the people of Dansoman.
Mr Adadevor noted that this was the 151 project the MTN Foundation had embarked on since 2007 with an investment of over 15 million dollars and impacting over four million lives in Ghana.
He advised that the school should adopt good maintenance culture to enhance the longevity of the facility and also pledged their commitment to bringing ICT to the doorsteps of many Ghanaians everywhere they go.
Mr Adadevor expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament for the constituency, the assembly, the school authorities, and the contractor for their collaboration throughout the construction process.
Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications and MP for Ablekuma West Constituency, who commissioned the facility commended MTN Ghana Foundation for financing the project.
She said ICT was the way to go in the current system of education adding, that the construction of the facility would help build the digital skills of the students and members of the community.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said plans were far advanced to extend free wifi services across the country to help the students to research and surf the World Wide Web.
The Minister entreated students to make time to explore the facility and make positive outcomes from it.
She assured that the government would put in the right measures to ensure the facility was well maintained.
Mr Hayford Siaw, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Library Authority, said inadequate book resources had been the major challenge to many libraries but was positive this would not be the case as the government had put in place measures to mitigate this problem.
“We, therefore, look forward to utilizing the facility to the benefit of the community,” he stated.
