Cambodia launches coronavirus test blitz after Hungarian FM’s visit

Phnom Penh, Nov. 5, (dpa/GNA) – Cambodia launched a coronavirus testing blitz following a visit by Hungary’s foreign minister, who tested positive for the virus after leaving the country.

Cambodia’s Ministry of Health said at least 628 people who had contact with the Hungarian delegation had been tested, in a statement on Thursday cited by state media.
So far, all have returned a negative result, the statement said.

Cambodia has so far avoided a serious outbreak of Covid-19 and has reported no deaths from the virus. As of Thursday it has recorded 292 cases, with 286 of those recovered.

Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto tested positive for coronavirus after leaving Cambodia and arriving in Thailand, according to reports on Wednesday.

Szijjarto is not showing any symptoms, and was waiting at a hospital in Bangkok before returning home, a ministry spokesman told Hungarian state news agency MTI.

The minister was in Cambodia to reopen Hungary’s embassy, which the country closed 25 years ago. He met with Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen and other senior ministers, who have now entered self-isolation.
