Kumasi, Oct. 28, GNA – Residents of Hiawu Besease, a community in Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality in the Ashanti Region, have called on the government and the municipal assembly to help fix the road network and to clear a refuse dump in the area.
According to them, the deplorable nature of the roads and the refuse dump in the community could force people to boycott the December 7 elections.
Nana Manu Owusu Achiaw, the Chief Linguist of Besease Traditional Council, told the Ghana News Agency that in-spite of several petitions to the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly, the road and refuse dump remained unattended to.
He said the major problem was the untarred road from Sepaase to the community and Ntensere, which was making life unbearable for the people anytime it rained.
According to him, bad odour, reptiles and stench from the water in the refuse dump were causing sickness for the residents.
The Assemblyman for the area, Mr Osei Tutu, said he had informed the Municipal Assembly and the Member of Parliament for the area on the issues, but nothing good had come out yet.
Some drivers, who spoke with the GNA, said the muddy nature of the roads made it difficult to convey passengers and goods to destinations in the area.
They called on the government to fix the road and eradicate the refuse dump to ease the burden of the people.
