Takoradi, Sept. 18, GNA – One of the candidates sitting for the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ahanta West Municipality died on Thursday after a short illness.
The deceased whose name was given as Richard Mensah was a final year student of the Apowa Methodist Junior High School (JHS) in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.
According to the school Authorities, Mensah fell unconscious a few minutes before the second paper, Basic Design Technology (BDT).
They said Mensah complained of a headache when he got to the examination centre but managed to write the Mathematics paper.
The Coordinators of the exams managed to convey him to the nearest private health facility, Jemima Crentsil Hospital in Kwesimintsim but he died on arrival.
The body has since been deposited at a private morgue awaiting autopsy.
In a related development, five female students who are sitting for the BECE in the Western Region are pregnant.
Two of them were in schools at Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality while three were in the Jomoro Municipality.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Western Regional Education Service Directorate (GES), Mrs Kate Biney indicated that District Officers and Gender Unit did everything possible to persuade the pregnant students to take the final Exams but to no avail.
