Keta (V/R), June 14, GNA – Construction work on the administration block for the Keta Harbour project is to begin in September, this year, Mr Godwin Edudzi Yao Effah, Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has said.
“The dream of the government to have a harbour constructed for Keta has not died off at all as being peddled by some doubting ‘Thomases’. I want to put on record that sod cutting for the construction of the administration block for the harbour project will take place in September this year,” he said.
The MCE said the beginning of work on the administration block would facilitate the construction of the project comprising a fish landing site and the main harbour to open up the Keta area for rapid development.
Mr Effah who was speaking at a press soiree held at the Municipal Assembly Hall admitted there were some challenges delaying the start of work on the project but assured that government was doing its best to see the long-held dream of a harbour at Keta materialised.
“There is this popular saying that when an old lady spends so much time in the bath, it means she is taking much time to prepare herself well before coming out to the public. The proposed Keta Harbour has delayed a bit but it will definitely see the light of the day soon and we will all be happy,” he added.
The MCE said Government in the past three years extended social amenities to some communities, some of which were enjoying such facilities for the first time and called for support of all.
He said the Municipality was also benefiting from Government’s intervention projects and programmes in education, health and agriculture and said by December, major roads in the Municipality would be fixed.
Mr Effah said efforts were underway for the establishment of a Marine Police Unit and a Fire Station and commended the Chiefs, Assembly members and other opinion leaders for the support.
Torgbui James-Ocloo V, Dufia of Keta who chaired the event appealed to Government to fast track work on the Keta Harbour project, saying, “As fisher folks, the harbour project will help a lot in providing jobs for our people.”
