TEMA West, June 20, GNA – The Tema West Constituency Office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday became a beehive as its seams stretched to limits with party faithful finding a new song to celebrate Carlos Kinsley Ahenkorah.
The Incumbent Member of Parliament’s re-electiion bid as the Party’s parliamentary candidate turned out as an easy run.
The cacophony of songs, whispers and little gossips reached a crescendo when the collated results were announced by the Electoral Commission personnel.
The mood of the supporters swirled with excitement with no facial expressions of doubts as they sang and danced when Mr Carlos Kinsley Ahenkorah was declared winner of the contest.
Party members who were masked up were spotted inexhaustibly exchanging pleasantries, with others having long conversations with blithe disregard for the Covid-19 protocols.
The election was generally peaceful from start to finish in all 10 electoral areas in the constituency with expectedly tight police and military presence.
Mr Carlos Ahenkorah polled 593 out of the 848 total votes cast, representing 70 per cent to beat his other two contenders; Mr Kwesi Poku Bosompem who garnered 107 votes representing 21 per cent and Mr Keku Armquasia Armuzuah, 76 votes representing nine percent.
Mr John Nunoo, Tema West Municipal Electoral Officer indicated that out of the total votes cast, there were two rejected ballots.
Mr Carlos Kinsley Ahenkorah, who is also a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, in a victory speech, expressed his appreciation to the delegates for the overwhelming endorsement to run for a second term, saying “the electorates in Tema West were ready to retain power to change the fortunes of the constituency.”
The main test of winning the parliamentary seat awaits In December. Swing voters in the constituency will decide if he deserves a second bite of the cherry.
