Obuasi central market closed down

Obuasi, (Ash), May 08 GNA – The Obuasi Central Market has been closed down following the inability of traders and buyers to maintain physical and social distancing in the place.

Mr. Elijah Adansi Bonnah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and head of the Municipal Security Committee, told the Ghana News Agency at Obuasi that, the closure takes immediate effect from today Friday 08, this year.

He said in-spite of sustained public education by the assembly to maintain the social distancing protocols in the market, the traders were refusing to observe the protocols.

Mr Adansi Bonnah said since Obuasi was considered as a hot spot for the COVID-19, the assembly needed to take decisive action to bring sanity into the market.

He said the assembly was devising a new strategy by designing a carding system for the traders to come to the market at different times to help reduce congestion and maintain physical distancing.

Mr Adansi Bonnah said the Municipal health taskforce would strictly monitor the card system to ensure that those who were not supposed to come to the market at a particular time, did not come.
