Zuarungu (UE) May 29, GNA- Members of the Bolgatanga East District Assembly have received PPE to help them promote effective hand washing in their families and communities, as part of the fight against the spread of COVID- 19.
Each of the 25 Assembly Members took home a large-sized Veronica bucket and a stand, liquid soap, and tissue paper.
The items were given to the Assembly by the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council.
Mr David Na’ire, the District Coordinating Director, in a telephone interview with the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga, on the distribution, carried out earlier, said the gesture was part of measures taken to ensure that clients of the Assembly and members and their neighbours washed and sanitized their hands well enough to prevent the spread of the disease.
He said the Assembly members, as leaders in their communities, received many people in their houses and it was prudent for them to have the needed basic equipment that will protect them, their families, and their communities as a whole.
“Homes of Assembly Members also serve as their offices since they attend to a lot of community members daily for various reasons”, he added.
Mr Anangleo Abotizabre, the Assembly Member of the Kumbosco Electoral area reiterated that it was his responsibility to ensure that his people were protected from being infected with the virus.
“I always make sure that there is enough water for handwashing whenever we hold meetings near my house and my family members also wash their hands whenever go out and come into the house”.
He said there was an ongoing sensitization programme of the communities to observe the WHO protocols of washing hands with soap under running water and observing social and physical distancing.
The GNA on visiting the house of Mr Abotizabre witnessed some children washing their hands after playing.
