Northern Region Muslims Council congratulates President-Elect John Mahama

Tamale, Dec. 13, GNA – The Northern Region Muslims Council has congratulated President-Elect Mr John Mahama on his victory at the just ended presidential elections.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Northern Region Muslims Council signed by its Chairman, Sheikh Issah Alhassan Abubakari and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Friday.

The statement said the victory was a clear testament and affidavit to the trust and confidence the citizenry had in him saying, “We, therefore, urge him to work tirelessly for the betterment of our nation.”

The statement also commended Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for graciously conceding defeat. “This single act of Dr Bawumia shows his statesmanship and commitment to democracy and peace of the nation.”

The statement said “Our revered Chiefs, Imams, Pastors, the Security, the Media, Local and International Observers, other partners are all commended for their diverse roles played. Their roles went a long way to collectively help the entire process.”

It called on the youth to stay away from post-election violence. “They don’t speak well of us as people of faith. Indeed, vandalism such as what we have witnessed has no place in our democracy, and we must all work together to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding.”

It said “As we move forward, let us unite in our pursuit of a brighter future for our nation. Let us put aside our differences and work towards common goals.”

The statement also commended the citizenry for the mature manner they conducted themselves before, during and after the elections.
