Bongo (U/E), Dec. 11, GNA – Mr Charles Bawaduah, the Member of Parliament (MP) Elect for the Bongo Constituency in the Upper East Region has assured his constituents that he will not disappoint them, and the trust bestowed on him.

Instead, he will work hard to represent his people well in Parliament and address the numerous challenges facing the people in the area for improved livelihoods and economic transformation.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Bongo, Mr Bawaduah who is also a Legal Practitioner, stressed that the overwhelming support Ghanaians showed his political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), demanded highest level of delivery and that their expectations would be met.

He said apart from helping to formulate laws and policies to assist the President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, when he is sworn into office in January 7, 2025, would prioritise education, healthcare, agriculture as key policies to drive youth employment and women empowerment in his constituency.

“We have so many things to do especially in the area of education because education has been backwards, hardly will you see desk in any school and how could students learn comfortably in that situation and I will work to have that sorted out,” he said.

He indicated that apart from the implementation of the free primary health care for all which was in the NDC manifesto, he would work to renovate, restock, and motivate the health facilities and workers in Bongo especially those in the interior to deliver quality healthcare services to the residents.

“Youth unemployment is a major challenge in the constituency and so, as we seek to create opportunities for the youth to get formal jobs, it is important to look at other options and one of those is agriculture in this constituency, so, we will encourage the youth to form farmer groups and support them with farm inputs and implements”, he added.

He expressed gratitude to constituents for the massive support and employed their support to enable the government deliver on the promises and transform the country to the Ghana they all wanted.

Mr Bawaduah polled 30,114 votes out of 39,642 valid votes cast to comfortably beat his only competitor, Madam Diana Aduko Aburiya of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who polled 9,528 votes to retain the seat for the NDC.

The lawyer who is a former Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission, begun his ambition to represent the people of Bongo in Parliament in 2011 when he contested the party’s parliamentary primaries but lost to the then MP, Mr Albert Abongo.

He went on to contest the 2015 parliamentary primaries but lost again to Mr Edward Bawa, the incumbent MP.

He decided not to contest the 2020 election primaries of the party but came back and beat the incumbent MP in the 2023 primaries in the run up to the 2024 elections.
