Tema West MP-elect vows to create jobs for youth

By Elizabeth Larkwor Baah

Tema, Dec. 11, GNA -Mr James Enu, a lawyer, and Member of Parliament-elect for Tema West, has pledged to prioritise job creation for the youth in the constituency by leveraging Tema’s status as an industrial hub.

Mr Enu said even though there were many industries in Tema, the youth in the area were deprived of jobs, stating that, “Tema is an industrial city, and as an industrial city, it is expected that the youth should have jobs, but unfortunately, the irony of the situation is that the youth do not have jobs; a lot of them are stranded, going into illicit activities; they don’t have hope; they are frustrated.”

Speaking to the media, he mentioned that his outfit was taking steps to set up a Youth and Employment Centre (YEA) that would connect the youth to job opportunities, adding that for those who have qualifications, they would help them with the needed coaching and interviewing skills.

He added that they support people who want to go into apprenticeships as well as help people with special skills to help them achieve their aspirations, noting that he would invest in a social welfare scheme whose dividends would be used to support the disadvantaged in the area.

The Tema West MP-elect acknowledged the rising unemployment rate among young people, noting that it was one of the most pressing issues in the constituency, giving residents the assurance that measures were being taken to address the issue.

Touching on strategies adopted by his team to win the election, he said he remained focused and established both professional and personal relationships with the constituents and made himself available and accessible to the people to draw them closer.

Mr Enu thanked God for the victory and appreciated the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) party executives, his family, and all the supporters for their work done in ensuring that the party emerged victorious and pledged to work with all members of the constituency devoid of their political affiliations.

“I think that God too has been gracious unto us because I believe in the spiritual; I know that God deals with times and seasons. I have contested the first time, second time, and this is the third time going into this election. I had a fervent belief that this is my time, and this is by seasons.”

Mr Enu snatched the Tema West seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after polling 49,225 votes compared to the 27,618 votes received by the NPP’s candidate, Mr Dennis Amfo Sefah.
