Accra, Dec 11, GNA – The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for winning the December 7, 2024, Presidential Election with an emphatic landslide.
“Similarly, we congratulate the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidates who have won their seats in the Legislature of Ghana’s Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic,” Reverend Dr Lieutenant Colonel Bliss Divine Agbeko (rtd), Moderator of the General Assembly of the E.P. Church, Ghana, said in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency.
The Church also commended Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for demonstrating maturity and sincerity in conceding defeat and congratulating his opponent, Mr Mahama, for emerging victorious as the President-elect.
It said his prompt concession had eased the rising tension and averted a possible chaos in some parts of the country.
The statement expressed gratitude to various political actors and relevant stakeholders, including the contestants and their followers, the media, local and international observer groups, diplomatic corps, the National Peace Council, National Commission for Civic Education, state regulatory institutions such as security personnel and the Electoral Commission for their diverse roles played in ensuring a successful election.
“We entreat all Ghanaians, irrespective of political, tribal and religious affiliation to bury their differences, if any, and demonstrate high sense of affection, sensitivity and patriotism to preserve the country’s long standing peaceful and stable democratic values, while rallying support to the President Elect and his incoming government in the quest of Ghana’s socio-economic growth required to instill confidence in the citizenry and potential investors.”
The Church assured the in-coming NDC Government of its firm allegiance and partnership in the areas of education, health, agriculture, advocacy in social interventions, including environment and climate change as well as providing religious intercession in accordance with its mission of “Bringing Light to where there is Darkness.”
