Tema, Dec. 11, GNA – Dr Benjamin Anyagre, the Chief Executive Officer of Afro-Continental Union Consult, a think tank on African good governance, has lauded Ghanaians for setting the standards for the country’s democracy through their ballots in the December 7 general election.
“The Ghanaian electorate have spoken in their votes and in unprecedentedly large numbers,” he said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.
“A checklist for Ghanaian democracy has been written and set by the people through the ballot.”
He observed that the “operation recover all loot” from the outgoing administration had been emphatically endorsed by the electorate to help protect the public purse.
Dr Anyagre called on the judiciary, traditional rulers, clergy, imams, civil society organisations and state institutions mandated to check graft and corruption to begin to help reset Ghana with responsiveness and hard work.
The incoming government had been offered a large number of parliamentarians to right all wrongs to ensure good governance with fluid and people-centred policies.
He called on Ghanaians to unite after the elections and play their respective roles to reset the country with honesty, patriotism, and dedication.
Dr Anyagre reminded the incoming government of the overwhelming vote it had received, which was an indication of the people’s anger against
corruption, arrogance, impunity, and abuse of office and it must, therefore, avoid such acts.
He urged the president-elect, Mr John Dramani Mahama, to create an enabling environment for decent job opportunities, especially for the youth.
“The two-thirds majority should be consciously used for healthy governance purposes,” he added.
