Accra, Nov. 30, GNA – Dr Mrs Rachel Mensah, the Ledzokuku Municipal Agric Director, has revealed that 37 farmers in the past year benefitted from the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) grant input distribution aimed at improving agriculture in the municipality.
She said under phase two of the government’s flagship programme PFJ, each of the 37 farmers received two bags of 25kg NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium) fertiliser and one bag of 10kg maize seeds.
Speaking at the recently held 40th National Farmers Day celebration in the district, she added that 15 farmers also benefitted from the vulnerable farmers category of the programme.
She indicated that each of the vulnerable farmers also received three bags of NPK fertiliser.
The agric director again said under the Aqua for Food and Jobs programme, 50 farmers in the municipality were also given fish tanks, four bags of fish feed each, and 1,050 fingerlings as a start-up for their aquaculture business.
Social In conclusion, our achievements as a department include training of farmers in the municipality on climate-smart agriculture, modern farming techniques, and crop management.
There has also been a drastic reduction of the occurrence of pests and diseases in the municipality, especially fall army worms.
