By Emmanuel Gamson

Mpohor (W/R), Nov. 29, GNA – The Mpohor District in the Western Region has been renamed Mpohor-Fiase District to reflect the two traditional areas that make up the district and ensure an all-inclusive administration by the Assembly.

Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, who officially out doored the new name, described the occasion as momentous in the history of the district, and said it would foster a sense of unity and pride among the two traditional leaders and their people.

He said the name change demonstrated the government’s commitment to bringing local governance to the doorsteps of the people, and that this would help each traditional area to get its fair share of development projects.

“The new name will further entrench our government’s decentralisation efforts, so that more local voices will be heard so we can be able to fix the problems in the district,” he added.

He asked the people to stay united and forge a common goal towards building a prosperous society to develop the district.

Mr Ignatius Asaah Mensah, the Mpohor-Fiase District Chief Executive (DCE), expressed gratitude to the government for granting the wish of the traditional authorities in the area to change the name of the district

He said: “I am very happy because since 2012 that this district was created, those from Fiase felt left out, and so now that we have their name part of it, I believe their contributions towards the growth and development of the district will be enormous.”

Mr John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie, the Member of Parliament for the area, appealed to the people to stay together in unity and harmony, irrespective of their political and ideological differences, saying it was one of the surest ways to progressively develop and positively transform the district.

He also encouraged them to place the interest of the district first in all their individual and collective endeavours, by contributing their quota towards the progress and development of the district.

The two traditional leaders expressed joy for the name change, and said it would foster unity among their people, and subsequently bring the kind of development they desired.
