Bomigo (VR) Nov 29, GNA – Mr Richard Kwame Sefe, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Anloga constituency in the Volta Region, has commissioned a three-unit classroom block with an office and store for Bomigo Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Basic school in the area.
The objectives were to ease many challenges the school was facing during teaching and learning to improve the progress of academic activities.
Mr Sefe, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, after the handing over, said that the other motive was to create a conducive environment for both teachers and students for effective teaching and learning for better outcomes.
“When l visited this community last year, the elders tabled three major challenges before me which include Classroom block, electrification project and road infrastructure, and l deemed it necessary to prioritise education first,” he stated.
He described the old classroom block for the junior high students as dilapidated and death trap that could collapse unknowingly, and the new building was to prevent any unfortunate disaster that may occur.
Mr Sefe told GNA that the next project for Bomigo community was electrification project and the construction of road network within the area and urged all eligible voters to vote massively for his second term and Mr John Dramani Mahama as the next president for more development projects.
“l have to commend ‘Adanu’ Non-Governmental organisation constructions and Bomigo community for their various supports for the construction of this beautiful classroom block that would improve education in the area.”
Mr Jerry John Kotoka, Volunteer and Project Coordinator for Adanu Construction Limited, explained to the GNA that the project was funded in two folds on a ratio 70:30 Adanu construction and the MP.
He said the 30 per cent of the project, which include the labour, sand, gravel among others were all funded by the Member of Parliament to give hope the public and the total cost of the project was Gh₵350,000.
Mr Olympio Gemadzi, the headteacher of Bomigo Basic school, who received the donations on behalf of staff and students thanked Mr Richard Kwame Sefe and the NGO for the kind gesture that would uplift the education standards in the area.
He said other challenges the school faced were, lack of school canteen, Library, staff common room, renovation of primary classroom block, and government’s school feeding programme to
prevent most pupils from going home during break hours which many never returned till the next day.
He appealed to individuals, philanthropists, benevolent organisations and the government to help build teachers’ bungalows and six classroom blocks to replace the old dilapidated one and a set of jerseys and footballs for the school team.
He also appealed to the Anloga District Education Directorate to post more teachers to the school “since we are in a dare need of teachers, only three of us are handling primary 1 to JHS 3, thanks to some volunteers, who are with our kindergarten children.”
Some residents of Bomigo who GNA interacted with expressed joy over the project and pledged to support the MP to win the upcoming December 7, parliamentary polls.
