Hohoe (V/R), Oct. 24, GNA – The Hohoe Circuit Court has sentenced Kofi Gator, aged 27, and a mechanic, to three years imprisonment for threat of death and assault.
On May 19, 2023, the convict was put before the court, presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey for the charges, where he pleaded guilty to the charge of threat of death.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault leading to full trial of the case, where he was found guilty and subsequently sentenced.
Police Inspector Rachel Osei Agyapomaa, Prosecuting, told the court that the complainant was a mason while the convict, a mechanic.
She said on May 14, this year, the complainant was on his way to attend nature’s call and spotted the convict.
Inspector Agyapomaa said without any cause, the convict warned the complainant not to step his foot in his own house, but the complainant ignored.
She said without any provocation from the complainant, the convict followed him to his house, held him on his neck and beat him up.
Inspector Agyapomaa said neighbours including the convict’s mother rushed to the scene to rescue the situation and pulled the convict away.
She said the complainant made a report to police and a police medical form was issued to him to attend hospital for treatment and report adding that the form was returned and endorsed by a medical officer.
Inspector Agyapomaa said the complainant on May 17, 2023, led police to the arrest of the convict.
She said in the process of arresting the convict, he threatened to kill the complainant on his return from the police station.
Inspector Agyapomaa said on the May 19, 2023, when the convict appeared in court for the offence of assault, the case was referred to Alternative Dispute Resolution to be resolved.
She said the complainant then informed the court of the convict’s threat of death; and when the court questioned the convict, he confirmed it.
Inspector Agyapomaa said the court ordered that the convict be brought on the charge of threat of death.
