Ghana’s Addo won’t rule out return as national team coach

Doha, Dec. 5, (dpa/GNA) - Departing Ghana coach Otto Addo has not ruled out a return to the helm of the African team in the future.

Addo, who had been on the job since February, stepped down after the team’s group stage exit at the World Cup in Qatar last week as wants to fulfil his contract until as talent coach for German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

“Maybe I will get another chance to work for the GFA [Ghana Football Association]. But for the next two-and-a-half years I have a contract with Dortmund which I respect,” Addo said in video released on Monday by the GFA.

Germany-born Addo reiterated it wasn’t possible to hold both jobs at the same time.

“It was out of my hands. My position at Borussia Dortmund as a talent coach is very important. Dortmund didn’t want to let me go at first, then the GFA made a big effort and they let me go for six months,” Addo said.

Addo had also asked Dortmund to release him because he had named coaching Ghana at the World Cup “a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The 2010 quarter-finalists Ghana won 3-2 against South Korea but lost with the same scoreline against Portugal and 2-0 against Uruguay to exit after the group stage.
