Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo markets open slightly stronger

Sydney, Mar. 3, (dpa/GNA) – Asian markets opened slightly stronger on Tuesday despite the ongoing offensive in Ukraine and western sanctions against Russia.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 benchmark index was up by 455.10 points, or 1.68 per cent, to reach the intermediate level of 26,971.92 points halfway through the trading day on Tuesday.

Japan has joined its G7 partners in imposing sanctions.

The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong was up 0.17 per cent at 22,750 points in the first hour of trade.

The Chinese stock exchanges in Shanghai and Shenzhen, which are somewhat isolated from world events, also started the trading day up slightly.

The Shanghai Composite Index opened up 0.55 per cent at 3,481 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index opened up 0.18 per cent at 13,479 points.
