Abura-Dunkwa (C/R), Nov. 23, GNA – Mr Willyevans Obiri-Awuah, the District Chief Executive(DCE)for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese(AAK)District, has urged Junior High School graduates to sidestep all enticing social vices that could derail their future ambitions.
They should eschew particularly, internet fraud popularly called “sakawa”, occultism, disobedience, insubordination, and substance abuse that were fast gaining grounds in the society.
Giving the advice through the Ghana News Agency, Mr Obiri-Awuah told the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates not to see themselves as adults but spend their time profitably pending their results.
He told the graduates, particularly girls to stay away from sex because it will lead to pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases that will make life miserable for them.
“The importance of education to human development is enormous”, he admonished and appealed to them to be of good courage in pursuit of their future goals and report any person or groups who may want to lure them into social vices, to their parents, religious heads or security agencies.
Mr Obiri-Awuah noted that the transition from a teenager to adulthood demanded a lot of hard work and that they should take one step at a time to avoid situations that will endanger their future.
They should rather exert their energies into productive ventures that will prepare them for the next level in their education.
He suggested among others, that they could take up training in Information and communications technology (ICT) programmes to develop their skills to be at pace with current trends.
He urged parents to also build stronger communication relationships with their children and wards to enable them to confide in them to prevent children from relying on friends for advice and information.
“Inculcating closer ties with children, especially adolescents is the way to boost childrens’ confidence level. It helps to allay all fears and allow children to freely share problems with parents at all times,” he added.
