Tamale, July 16, GNA – The Board of Trustees and Management of the Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS) has congratulated Dr Sulemana Abudulai, Founder and Vice-Chairman of RAINS, on his appointment as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Northern Development Authority (NDA).
Before this appointment, which was announced on July 13, Dr Abudulai served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority from 2017-2021.
A congratulatory message released in Tamale by the Board of Trustees and Management of RAINS and signed by Mr Hardi Tijani, Executive Director of RAINS, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale, said: “This appointment of Dr Abudulai by the President of the Republic of Ghana does not come to us as a surprise given the fact that he is a globally celebrated leader of development facilitation.”
The NDA is the agency set up by an Act of Parliament to provide a framework for the accelerated economic and social development of the northern development zone and related matters.
Dr Abudulai holds a PhD in Land Economy from Cambridge University, an MSc in Rural and Regional Resources Planning and a BSc in Land Economy from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
He has worked with several agencies, including the United Nations Mission in Darfur, Comic Relief UK, ActionAid International, Action on Disability and Development, UK, The Stephen Lewis Foundation, Canada and the Gaia Foundation, UK.
RAINS was set up by a group of social development activists in Northern Ghana in 1993, and it focuses on improving the quality of life particularly for children, youth, women and girls.
Over the years, RAINS has contributed to ensuring that more children especially girls and young people in Northern Ghana have had access to education and employable skills and protected from exploitation.
