Accra, May 28, GNA – Ghanaian boxer John Laryea (8-0-1, 6KO’s) says he is determined to win the WBO African Featherweight title as he faces off with Namibian boxer Sebastianus Natanael (14-2, 7KO’s).
The young Ghanaian boxing prodigy would take his first shot at a title against the reigning champion Sebastianus who won the title back in April after beating Jeremiah Mhere.
Ahead of the bout in July, Laryea is confident about winning the title and has set sights on a world title outing in the shortest possible period.
“I know I come from a difficult background and am poised to reach greater heights in my boxing career. This bout is the beginning of making my family proud because boxing has changed my life.
“With the help of my trainer who has nurtured many Ghanaian boxers up to the top-level, I hope he can also take me there with my hard work. The future looks bright if I am able to win this bout but if I should lose, things would be bad, so I am very determined to win this title so as to get a world title bout in the near future,” he said at a presser.
Carl Lokko, a renowned local trainer, on his part, said Laryea is a bright prospect who he believed can make Ghana proud.
“It has always been my dream to nurture boxers at a very young age so that we can turn them into World Champions at an early stage. Most Ghanaian boxers often fade out during their peak due to their age but I want to change this situation.
“I believe in the abilities of Laryea and hope he will make Ghana proud and one of the top quality boxers Ghana has produced,” he said.
