Accra, June 3, GNA – The National Sports Authority (NSA) will soon meet with Sports Federations granted permission to practice in the country, to fashion out guidelines for their operations.
The decision follows the easing of restrictions on some individual non-contact sporting disciplines in the country.
They include; Athletics, Badminton, Base Ball and Soft Ball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting, Swimming, Scrabble, Golf, Cricket, Cycling, Power Lifting and Keep Fit Clubs.
With regard to Keep Fit Clubs, not more than 100 persons would be allowed to exercise at a particular facility, while golfers are not supposed to use caddies (bag carriers).
The easing of the restrictions would enable athletes to train adequately to participate in any sporting competition or event when the opportunity arises.
There would be no competition or spectators in any of the training facilities allowed to open.
Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, the Youth and Sports Minister, giving details of the easing of restrictions on some sporting disciplines at the Minister’s briefing, in Accra on Wednesday, said the Government would ensure that sports stadia, training facilities, VIP Lounge, spectating sitting areas, and offices were fumigated and provided with hand washing and sanitary equipment before opening.
The Minister noted that the NSA and Ghana Health Service personnel would enforce the wearing of nose masks, hand washing, use of sanitizers, and ensure proper waste management protocols in the training facilities across the country.
In the event of any spike or outburst in COVID-19 infection within any sports facility, the Minister said there was a standby team comprising security and health workers to coordinate the rapid response of human and logistical resources to cordon off the facility, impose a curfew, trace, test and treat infected persons.
