Kumasi, Feb. 05, GNA – The Local Governance Network (LOGnet) has pledged its support to Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs as he takes office as Minister responsible for rural development.
The network, which is made up of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) focusing on local governance, believes the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim to that Ministry is a clear recognition of his dedication, expertise and unwavering commitment to public service.
A statement issued by LOGnet and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), promised its full support, cooperation and collaboration with the new Minister to achieve his vision and that of the government as espoused in the 2024 manifesto of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“As we advocate inclusive governance, social justice, and community development, we are excited about the prospects of collaborating with you to advance the principles of good governance, cultural preservation, and religious harmony,” the statement read.
It also stated that, “Your appointment comes at a time when there is a growing need for effective leadership to address the challenges affecting effective local governance, including delays in releasing the District Assemblies Common Fund, property rates collection points, sanitation and environmental issues, limited access and quality of public services at the local level, growing citizens apathy towards local authorities, among many other challenges that impede effective local governance.”
The leadership and members of LOGNet, according to the statement, have confidence in the ability of the Minister to lead with integrity, vision, and a deep sense of responsibility.
“Your experience and leadership will be invaluable in fostering an environment where all citizens, regardless of their background, can participate meaningfully in the governance process and contribute to the development of our nation,” it further emphasized.
The LOGNet with its nationwide membership of CSOs envision to complement government policies, special initiatives and programmes that seek to enhance local governance, empower chieftaincy institutions, strengthen religious tolerance, and to ensure effective local service provision and development.
It also looks forward to continually working with the Ministry and commit it utmost support to prosecuting the 2024 manifesto of the government across all the 261 Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana.
