Adopt Sound Environmental Practices- Effutu People told

Winneba (C/R), Feb 13, GNA – The Central Regional Minister, Mr Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, has asked the people of Effutu to join forces to help curtail the outbreak of communicable diseases, particularly cholera in the area.  

He said the huge amount government spent on managing such diseases could have been used for developmental projects and other socio-economic ventures to better the lots of all people.  

Mr Eduamoah made the call when he interacted with some inhabitants of Effutu at Winneba fishing beach, after undertaking a massive clean-up exercise in the area.  

 This followed an outbreak of cholera in the eastern and western parts of the municipality where more than 400 suspected cases had been reported, with 29 confirmed and two deaths.  

The visit of the Minister was to have first hand information on the outbreak and also encourage the people to adhere to strict hygienic protocols to safeguard their health.  

He advised them to stop using the beach, refuse dump and open spaces as places of convenience and desist from dumping refuse in gutters to help stem the outbreak.  

The Regional Minister praised the various security agencies, and other staff who joined the community, for availing themselves for the exercise and charged them to take good care of themselves.  

He later visited patients of the disease at the Effutu Municipal Hospital and interacted with the Authorities on current development of the outbreak.  

He applauded the medical personnel for their hard work and assured that his office will ensure the resources needed to execute their duties were at their disposal.
