Tema, Dec. 13, GNA – The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has reminded the president-elect, Mr John Dramani Mahama, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that Ghanaians will expect the implementation of the 24-hour campaign promise.
Mr Abraham Koomson, Secretary-General of the GFL, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the 24-hour policy implementation should be prioritised by the president-elect when he takes office.
“Workers expect the 24-hour policy implementation to be prioritised to reactivate the distressed industries to address the unemployment challenges,” he said.
Mr Koomson said the GFL, and workers counted on the strategy put out by the president-elect to restore, repair, and reset the economic systems that Ghanaians had been complaining about regarding the way the current government managed it.
Touching on the outcomes of the December 7 elections, he noted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) shot themselves in the foot by allowing political heavyweights like Mr Alan John Kyerematen and others to leave the party or withdraw their allegiance.
He said bad economic policies such as nuisance taxes, closure of banks, freeze of investments in government bonds, causing job losses, and hardships faced by affected pensioners.
According to him, other issues that worked against the NPP included the destruction of farmlands, forest reserves, and water bodies by illegal mining activities, and the “blatant misuse of state resources, high level of corruption, impunity, and arrogance.”
