Accra, Dec. 11, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed 13 individuals to constitute the Government side of the Transition Team as he initiates the process for the transfer of power.
This follows the election of John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s incoming President in the 2024 December 07 General Election, ushering in a new phase of the country’s democratic journey under the Fourth Republic.
The 13-member team, appointed in accordance with Section 1(1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), comprise Ms Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Head of the Presidential Staff, Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney-General, and Mr Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs.
Mr Henry Quartey, the Minister for the Interior, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Finance Minister, Mr Dominic Nitiwul, Minister of Defence, Mrs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Minister of Local Government and Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of National Security.
The rest are Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, Head of Civil Service, Dr Nana Ato Arthur, Head of Local Government Service, Mr Edward Asomani, National Security Coordinator, and Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari, Secretary to the Cabinet.
A statement issued by the Communications Directorate, Office of the President, said the Transition Team would be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, following a meeting between the President and President-elect.
It said the President has delegated Mrs Osei-Opare to act as co-Chairperson of the Team in his absence.
Additionally, he has appointed former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, to the Advisory Council, and that Mr Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, will serve as Chairperson of the Council.
Meanwhile, President-elect John Mahama has already named his side of the Transition Team, according to the statement.
The Team is tasked with ensuring a smooth transition to enhance the nation’s democratic credentials.
