President Akufo-Addo names government side of Transition Team

Accra, Dec. 11, GNA- President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed 13 individuals to form the Government side of the Transition Team as part of the process to transfer power.  

This follows the election of John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s new President in the December 7, 2024 General Election, marking a new chapter in the country’s democratic journey under the Fourth Republic. 

The 13-member team, appointed under Section 1(1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), includes Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Head of the Presidential Staff; Godfred Yeboah Dame, Attorney-General; and Mr. Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Minister for Presidential Affairs.  

Other appointees are: Interior Minister Henry Quartey, Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Defence Minister Mr. Dominic Nitiwul, Foreign Affairs Minister Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Local Government Minister Mr. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, and National Security Minister Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah. 

The remaining members are Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, Head of Civil Service; Dr Nana Ato Arthur, Head of Local Government Service; Mr. Edward Asomani, National Security Coordinator; and Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari, Secretary to the Cabinet. 

A statement issued by the Communications Directorate, Office of the President, said the Transition Team would be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, following a meeting between the President and President-elect. 

It said the President had delegated Mrs. Osei-Opare to act as co-Chairperson of the Team in his absence. 

Additionally, the President  has appointed former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, to the Advisory Council. 

Mr. Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, will serve as Chairperson of the Council. 

Meanwhile, the President-elect, John Mahama, had already named his side of the Transition Team. 

The Team is tasked with ensuring a smooth transition to enhance the nation’s democratic credentials.
