Aflao (VR), Dec 13, GNA – Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South has said she will chase the party to fulfill its campaign promises to her people.
Madam Gomashie retained her seat with 78,902 votes while Mr Samuel Wisdom Doe Haligah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), her main contender in the 2024 parliamentary election, polled 6,033 in the Ketu South Constitu4ncy.
Likewise, Mr John Dramani Mahama of the NDC had been officially declared by the Electoral Commission as winner of the December 7m 2024 presidential election.
Mad Gomashie speaking to Ghana News Agency in an interview assured the people that just as NDC promised them during the electioneering campaign, the NDC would not take the strong support and loyalty of the people of Ketu South and for that matter, Volta Region for granted.
In the campaigns leading to the December 7 elections, the people raised concerns mainly that the party usually forgot about the constituency and the region and that its investment there had never been commensurate with the love and loyalty it enjoyed over the decades.
Mr Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the NDC and former MP for Ketu South during NDC’s final rally in the constituency, admitted that the NDC could have done better for the region where it had its strongest roots, describing Volta Region and Ketu South as “NDC’s heart.”
Madam Gomashie told the GNA, during the interview: I’ll personally chase the party to fulfill its campaign promises to my people.
“A big market at Aflao, continuation of the sea defense project, the Denu-Keta and Denu-Ho roads, construction of astro turfs, a tertiary institution in Ketu South and more. These will not remain just campaign promises.
“I want everyone to trust the incoming Mahama government to deliver Ketu South, Volta Region and Ghana from the current economic hardships and put the country back on the right track. He has the right qualities,” she added.
The MP also expressed appreciation to her constituents for retaining her and to Ghanaians for the massive support for President-elect Mahama, saying, “We will strategise to ensure we achieve the desired goals.”
