Tema West, Dec. 13, GNA – Fourteen-year-old Miss Anita Mawuse Korkor Azah, a student at Saint John Bosco Roman Catholic Junior High School, has been named the overall best student in a keenly contested quiz competition held in Tema West.
The event, organised by Ahortor FM in collaboration with the Tema West Educational Directorate, brought together students from various basic schools in the municipality to test their knowledge in core academic subjects, including Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Information Communication Technology (ICT), and English Language.
The programme dubbed “Academic Showdown” saw representatives from all the 21 public basic schools in the municipality participating, out of which three schools proceeded to the finals.
At the end of the contest, Sakumono Complex Two JHS had 29.5 points, Sakumono Complex One JHS had 32 points, and Saint John Bosco Junior High School won with 33 points.
Miss Azah stood out for her exceptional performance, answering challenging questions with confidence and accuracy.
She expressed gratitude to her teachers, parents, and mates for their support, attributing her success to hard work, dedication, and the encouragement she received from her school.
Participants were awarded certificates and prizes, including televisions, laptops, among others.
Mr Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, popularly known as Daddy Bosco, General Manager, Ahortor FM, expressed pride in the success of the event and reiterated their commitment to community development through such programmes.
He emphasised the need for empowering the youth and fostering healthy competition to inspire academic excellence, saying that the move was their way of giving back to their community.
He promised his outfit would make the quiz an annual event to further encourage academic pursuits in the municipality.
Madam Margaret Ndewini, headteacher for John Bosco Roman Catholic Basic School, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Miss Azah’s composure and intellectual prowess earned her the top prize.
She said it was not surprising that she emerged as the best student in the competition, as her academic records were excellent.
She applauded her parents for their support and encouraged other guardians and parents to support their wards academic pursuits.
