Kwesimintsim, Dec. 13, GNA – Dr Lawrence Ofori Boadu, the Head of Institutional Care Division of the Ghana Health Service has entreated persons showing symptoms of cholera to report to the hospital early for better results.

He said,” come early for effective management which is absolutely free for better health outcomes.”

Dr. Boadu speaking to the Ghana News Agency said poor sanitation and hygiene, cold foods, bad hand washing practices and open defecation were the main cause of the disease and thus called on the public to take precautions to be safe.

He said vegetables could not be the only source of transmission of the infection.

He said a team was in the Western Region to monitor the surge in cases, realign emergency health care plans and augment staff for prompt care.

Dr. Boadu said so far, he and the team had visited five facilities with daily case of 34, adding more hands and logistics were needed to stem the surge in the Region.

In Ghana, four Regions; Greater Accra, Eastern, Central, and Western had been affected with the disease condition.

The Head of Institutional Care said though Greater Accra was calm, Central had fewer cases, the evolving nature of the condition in the Western Region was worrying and called for effective multisectoral response to curb the surge.
