Accra, July 13, GNA- The Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Nana Dwemoh Benneh, has paid a courtesy call on one of its pioneering customers; Mr. Kwame Ofosu Bamfo, CEO of Alisa Hotels at the plush Alisa Hotel Tema.

The visit was part of a series of key customer visits to mark UMB’s 50th anniversary, which has been dedicated to customers.

A statement issued in Accra by the Bank said the visit further enabled the UMB team to tour the new Alisa Hotel site with the leadership of the Hotels.

The multi-million-dollar project, financed in part by UMB is billed to be perhaps the only 5-star hotel in Tema.

It is expected that Alisa Hotel Branch in Tema will raise hospitality in Ghana’s number 1 Port City up to international standard.

Nana Benneh said; “This project reminds us of all of our heritage and pride in building and growing indigenous Ghanaian businesses.

He said since 1972, they have brought and continue to bring a uniquely Ghanaian perspective to banking.

He said UMB was, therefore, proud to have been bankers to Mr Bamfo and his companies since 1990, and “we are proud to have arranged the financing of this ground-breaking project in Tema.  Alisa Hotel Tema is poised to be the most famous hotel in this City in a generation, reminiscent of the glory days of the Meridien Hotel.”

Mr. Ofosu Bamfo, Chairman of Alisa Hotels, said; “UMB has been a right partner through thick and thin, believing that a Ghanaian businesslike ours can make it.”

He said together with UMB, they had created 650 sustainable jobs within the period of their partnership, and they were extremely proud to be on the cusp of launching this project.

“Together we have navigated it through COVID-19 and other rough patches during the project cycle,” he added.

He said Management was proud of this achievement as this would be the only true 5-star hotel in Tema.

“The group is poised to open perhaps the plushest hotel in Tema in a few weeks, filling a gap that industry watchers indicate has existed since the collapse of the famous Meridian Hotel,” he said.

The party on the tour included Mr. Ofosu Bamfo; Mr Abankwah Yeboah, Marteykor Quaye and Stephen Mulu Nzavi, all Senior Executives from the Alisa Hotel group, while the team from UMB are Nana Benneh; Nii Amankra Tetteh, Executive Director of Business, Philemon Okyere Danquah, General Manager Corporate Banking; Rejoice Akuffo and Edward Asafu-Adjaye.
