School textbooks: Minister commends Appointed Time Printing on progress of work

Accra, July 08, GNA- Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has commended the management of Appointed Time Printing Limited for completing the printing of textbooks ahead of schedule.

The Minister said the company had worked hard to print the textbooks ahead of time to be distributed to basic schools in the country.

Dr Adutwum said this when he paid a courtesy call on the management of the company in Accra.

Appointed Time Printing is the company tasked by the Government to print basic Science textbooks in Ghana to be distributed to the Greater Accra, Volta and Central Regions.

The company was given 120 days, which is, from June to September.

“I am excited to see that the company has done this on schedule. In fact, they have done ahead of schedule so that the books can start hitting their classrooms,” he said.

Dr Adutwum said the distribution of the first consignment of the textbooks had started across the country.

“We have the trucks parked; the books are being loaded, and the first consignment will be leaving this place to be distributed to the basic schools.”

Dr Adutwum said President Akufo-Addo was determined to ensure that various schools in the country had access to the textbooks and expressed excitement over the readiness of the first consignment.

Mr Charles Aidoo, Head of Marketing and Operations, Appointed Time Printing Limited said, the company after receiving the contract from the Ministry, put in place various mechanisms to deliver ahead of time.

He said the workers in various sectors, worked day and night to execute the task and would continue that feat to fully execute the others.

Mr Aidoo said, “In all, over 600,000 books are to be printed, and as it stands, we are about 50 per cent through.”

“Should there be no inconveniences, by the end of August, we will have completed our task, because our plans are to execute all tasks ahead of timelines given to us,” he added.

Mr Aidoo said basically, the company is mandated to distribute the textbooks printed to basic schools in Greater Accra, Central and Volta Regions, but the immediate ones are going to Accra and Volta.

A total of about 70,000 books will be distributed to Accra and Volta.
