Rotary Club of Kumasi-East to raise funds to support Kumasi South Hospital’s

Kumasi, July 8, GNA – The Rotary Club of Kumasi-East is raising an amount of $20,000.00 to equip and expand the Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) of the Kumasi South Hospital at Atonsu in the Asokwa Municipality.

The aim is to provide ultra-modern health equipment and logistics to support the Unit, which is congested, to offer quality health care delivery to newborn babies and their mothers.

Ms Sharon Afriyie Ofori-Kuragu, the Club’s President for the 2022/2023 year, said the Club would solicit support from the Rotary Foundation, District Grant, local sponsorships and fundraisings to ensure that the project is implemented.

She said quality care of newborn babies had become more important at a time when child mortality rates had gone up in Ghana.

It was, therefore, time for philanthropic organizations and individuals to increase their efforts in assisting health facilities to render quality services to save the lives of neonates.

Ms Ofori-Kuragu, who was speaking at the 32nd Handing over and induction ceremony of the Club in Kumasi, also pledged the Club’s readiness to take up activities geared toward enhancing the health of the people.

These included health screening, blood donation, education and awareness creation and prevention of poliomyelitis.

The Rotary Club of Kumasi-East would also advance processes in the establishment of an Intensive Care Unit at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology hospital, provide clean water and micro flush toilets, as well as provide educational materials to some rural community schools in Ashanti.

Ms Ofori-Kuragu said the Club, under her tenure, would embark on environmentally sustainable activities such as tree planting at designated areas, creating environmental awareness in schools and other public places, and joining Ghanaians in marking Green Ghana Day.

She called on the members of the club to rally behind her to support the needy and marginalized in society.

Nana Kofi Ayesu-Boahene, the outgoing President of the club, commended members for their commitment and active involvement in undertaking projects and activities.

He charged them to continue to uphold the ethos of Rotary, which was hinged on serving to provide for and change the lives of people.

Among the newly elected executives are Ms Ofori-Kuragu, President, Ms. Georgina Acheampong in charge of New Generation, Mrs Dorcas Ayesu- Boahene, Head of Public Image and Mr Kennedy Frimpong, Membership Head.
