Bibiani (WN/R), July 13, GNA –The Municipal Chief Executive of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai and his driver were killed on the spot when their vehicle was involved in an accident in the Eastern Region last Tuesday.
The MCE, Alfred Amoah was travelling with his driver to his duty post in the Western North Region when the incident occurred at Apedwa near Tafo in the Eastern Region at around 1715 hours on Tuesday evening.
The MCE was returning to Bibiani after attending a meeting in Accra.
Police Inspector Edward Nimoh of the Divisional MTTD at Kibi confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), and said the accident involved three vehicles.
He said the Nissan Patrol 4×4 vehicle of the MCE with registration number (2060- 18) crashed head-on with a Man Diesel Articulator truck.
He said the driver of the Man Diesel Articulator truck with registration number (AS 4229-X) which was traveling from Kumasi, veered off its lane and crashed head-on with the MCE’s vehicle.
Another Man Diesel Fuel tanker with registration number (GN 8540-20) with an empty tank, which was also travelling from Kumasi lost control of the steering wheel and veered of its lane and landed into a ditch on the offside when its driver attempted to avoid crushing into the two accident vehicles.
Inspector Nimoh said the MCE and his driver were trapped in their vehicle, and it was personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from Bunso and Kibi who remove the bodies which has since been deposited at the Kibi Government Hospital.
