2022 Civil Service Week: Members adopt digitalisation tools for improved service delivery

Accra, July 21, GNA – The Office of the Head of Civil Service and Civil Servants have adopted digitalisation as focus for the 2022 Civil Service Week celebration to reflect on their operations and achievements for the year.

The week-long celebration is on the theme: “Digitalisation in the Civil Service of Ghana: An agenda for Improved Service Delivery.”

Nana Kwasi Agyekum-Dwamena, the Head of Civil Service, who said the week-long celebration would be used to reflect on the successes and failures of the Service, said national digitalisation agenda would drive performance in the Service.

He said this at the press launch of the 2022 Civil Service Week celebration in Accra.

The celebration, which started with a clean-up exercise on Wednesday July 20, will include football matches, thanksgiving service for Christians and Muslims, visit to National Chief Imam over national development discussions, policy fair, and a tourism day.

Others are health screening exercises, food bazaar, cooking competition between men and women, public lecture, and awards ceremony.

Mr Agyekum-Dwamena said the Civil Service was one of the core pillars of development in the country as it assisted government with initiatives and implementation of programmes as well as monitoring and evaluation of policies.

These were done by the 28 Government Ministries, three agencies, and 25 departments with 17,500 total staff, he said.

Digitalisation was a path to modernisation of every country and protected records for improved evidence-based policy decisions, he said, adding that the Civil Service had, therefore, started a pilot programme called the E-Appraisal to assess employees’ performance for improved auditing, notification and reporting.

Going forward, he said, the Service would organise a technical skills training on database management, digital service delivery, and analytics for about 10,300 staff for effective use of IT for faster and better service delivery.

The Service would also collaborate with others in the public and private sector to share innovative ideas and best practices to enhance productivity and drive national development.

As Ghana still had some cases of COVID-19, Mr Agyekum-Dwamena reminded civil servants to observe the safety protocols while celebrating the week.

Mr John Yaw Agbeko, Chief Director, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in a welcome address, reiterated the significant contribution of the Service to successive governments through initiation of policies, among others.

He said the award ceremony for outstanding civil servants as part of the celebration would encourage others to work hard to increase efficiency, accountability and in-service delivery.

He commended the media for its longstanding relationship and partnership with the Service, explaining that, that contributed to improved governance system and fostered national growth.
