Accra, June.19, GNA – The 2022 National Armwrestling Championship ended with some exciting and thrilling performances from the various regional pullers as they battled against each other at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The competition, which was organised by the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) was to select pullers from various categories to represent Ghana at the forthcoming Africa Armwrestling Championship in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Junior Female Category saw some interesting performances as the young pullers proved their level of experience and strength against each other, but it was Blessed Nunoo who was crowned champion as she stood firm to triumph over Perpetual Nunoo who finished second with Eugenia Ntow also picking up third position in that category.
The contest got more exciting in the Female Lightweight category, which was more or less like a battle of the fittest where all competitors proved themselves to be top notch but Helena Robertson pulled out exceptionally as she managed to carry the day, whiles Grace Commey and Mary Quaye also finished second and third to round the category up.
Elsewhere in the Female Heavyweight category, Florence Mensah took the competition on a soft note as she finished off all her opponents to be crowned champion, while Afia Kumah grabbed second place with Rashida Abass who also finished in third position.
The Men’s Lightweight Category was also a delight to watch as the boys were separated from the men with Aziz Wahab and Wisdom Abromekyi who displayed some top-class performances with a tight rivalry showdown.
At the end of the contest, Aziz Wahab was crowned champion with Wisdom Abromekyi and David Arafat taking the second and third position.
Edward Asamoah was declared winner of the Men’s Middleweight category, showing all, he had to beat Issah Kouyah and Prince Afum who were also top competitors when it comes to armwrestling in Ghana.
The most challenging category, that was the Men’s Heavyweight category saw Derrick Kwakye who was on heat to grab the first position as he managed to beat Fawzi Saoud and Isaac Antwi-Boasiako. Indeed it was a clash of titans as all three top pullers performed marvellously well.
The Ghana Armwrestling Federation would prepare these pullers for the African Championship in Lagos next month as they seek to make Ghana proud at the international front.
