La MP launches skills development training programme for youth

Accra, June 14, GNA – Madam Rita Odoley Sowah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for La Dadekotopon Constituency, has launched a skills development training programme for the youth in her constituency.

The Skills development training programme dubbed ‘Nyɛ Awo Kpakpa’ translated Good Mother in English, is a five week training programme which equips participants with knowledge in cosmetology, dress and bead making, baking, hairdressing and soap making

The programme, funded from the Member of Parliaments share of the District Assembly Common Fund will provide startup kits to participants after completion of their training.

About 150 people from the constituency are expected to benefit from the programme.

Ms Sowah said times are changing and skills acquisition and training has become so important if one is to become self-reliant and be able to support their families.

Beneficiaries of the programmes will only be seen as successful when they take the programme serious and work to become self-employed and earn a decent income through the skills they acquire.

The training programme will help the beneficiaries to become self-reliant, reduce poverty and hunger, and promote good health as well as their general well-being aside boosting economic growth and reducing gender disparity within the locality

The MP said four out of the five weeks would be dedicated to practical training while the remaining week would see participants go through some theoretical and grooming processes to prepare them for their various field of expertise.

She urged the beneficiaries, especially the single and young mothers to put in their best efforts in acquiring the needed skills to complement their basic source of income.

The acquisition of skills by these beneficiaries would not only enable them support their families but promote the transfer of knowledge to their children and equip them with the requisite skills that would arouse their interest in becoming successful entrepreneurs, Ms Sowah added

The beneficiaries who were visibly appreciative of the gesture took a pledge to give off their best.

Esther Awisi Osanyorgmor and Nii Ashrifi Okoe Mensah, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, praised their Member of Parliament for the laudable initiative

Nii Amasah Namoale and other NDC constituency executives were present at the ceremony to offer their support and solidarity.
